About the District
The pairing of craft and creativity is the cornerstone of made in Italy, it’s the dis-tinctive element of the city of Como and its land. Craftsmanship and the textile industry played such a decisive role in characterising the landscape of Como dis-trict that it can be considered the Italian Textile Valley due to its representation of the range of skills involved in textile manufacturing.
With the Designation Como has accepted the challenge to become a Sustainable Fashion City at international level.
Thanks to the engagement of all the institutional, entrepreneurial and scientific realities of the District the vision for Como the City of Sustainable Fashion has been achieved. The objectives for the next 3 years are: to implement anti-waste strategies (in particular towards the protection of water resources); to improve the traceability of fabrics by enhancing the peculiarities of Made in Italy; to pro-mote the textile (industrial) landscape by initiating a circular economy that pro-vides for the reintroduction of a green component; to create a new strategy of promotion that can bring the new generations closer to the textile sector, a spe-cial attention will be reposed in all strategies dedicated in promoting a greater involvement of women in fashion system.
