Voltian Temple

Como,

Viale Guglielmo Marconi 1

The Palladian-style monument, designed by architect Federico Frigerio and financed by cotton industrialist Francesco Somaini, was built in 1927, and inaugurated on 15 July 1928, on the occasion of the celebrations for the centenary of Alessandro Volta’s death.
The Volta Temple houses scientific instruments, together with documents and materials relating to the life of the man who in 1799 invented the battery, the first static generator of electricity, and in 1776 discovered methane gas.
