The International System
The excellences of Como UNESCO Creative City
Como has been a United Nations Peace Messenger City since 1987 and was among the first cities in the world to receive this prestigious designation, which is based on the importance of the role of municipal authorities in promoting a culture of solidarity and peace. With this in mind, the Municipality of Como has initiated various relations in the international sphere.
In addition to being a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Como is also home to two important UNESCO-related entities: the UNESCO Chair at the University of Insubria, dedicated to ‘Gender Equality and Women’s Rights in Multicultural Society’, and Cometa, the only UNEVOC Centre in Italy. Finally, Como is also the first UNESCO Creative City in Italy to have officially included the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO in its Governance.
Talent, Creativity and Sustainability for Youth.

Able to rely on a solid international system, the city engages actively in projects promoting critical perspectives on reality, and fostering an understanding of the multiple aspects of sustainable development. The initiatives offer young people practical tools for the making of informed decisions and for acting responsibly to do their part in contributing to a more innovative and sustainable future.
