Broletto Palace

Como,

Piazza Duomo 2

Palazzo Broletto was always used as the seat of the city’s civic power, housing the city hall from as far back as the 13th century. At its side stands the Duomo, and together these buildings symbolised both secular and religious power. The fact that they were built in the same place is an indication of the continuity between the authority of the bishopric and the power of the municipality. Abandoning its civic role in 1764, the Broletto was converted first into a theatre and then into an archive. Today it is used for events and as an exhibition venue, still retaining all the charm of its history.
