The work of Milanese sculptor Gianni Colombo, the Monument to the European Resistance is located in the city’s lakeside gardens. The monument collects stones from the Nazi extermination camps and the city of Hiroshima, as well as some plaques with writings by those condemned to death in World War II. It was unveiled on 28 May 1983 by the then President of the Republic Sandro Pertini.
