The First Edition

Lake Como Creativity Week 2024

The first of these multidisciplinary programmes took place from 11th to 17th March 2024. Focus during the planning phase was directed at young people under 30, a group identified as a strategic to the event’s aims. Initiatives were put in motion with the express aim of involving this cohort, encouraging them to present and development new and imaginative ideas.

Unlike the traditional fashion and design weeks, Lake Como Creativity Week operates across the board, with ‘connections’ being the key word. If Como is seen by the world as a centre of excellence for textile-fashion, design and textile-furniture, it also stands out for the dialogue that has always been engaged in here between architecture, literature, sculpture, art and science. It is a cultural heritage richly expressed in the work of its great historical figures that include the likes of Pliny, Giovio, Volta, the Magistri Cumacini and Terragni.

The UNESCO Creative Cities National Forum ‘CreativeMakers: creative skills for the future’ was a highlight of that first week, specifically designed to promote youth talent and participation. The term CreativeMakers was inspired by the change makers, those agents of change who are possessed of creative skills, the ability to innovate, solve problems and break the established moulds of thinking. Como UNESCO Creative City aims to become a global reference point for youth education and participation.
